Up for sale, a 1990 Fender Stratocaster "Order Made" model ST62-680 in exceptional condition and in perfect working order, complete with a modern Fender molded hardshell case and all of the original hangtags. This Stratocaster was made during the golden age of Fender Japan production at the Fujigen factory, and the Order Made program represented a sort of custom shop with non-catalog finish and component options. This particular instrument is clearly a recreation of Stevie Ray Vaughn’s iconic “Number One” Strat, featuring an inverted (left-handed) vibrato, black pickguard, and an upgraded trio of USA-made Van Zandt Vintage Plus pickups. The classic tonewood complement includes an alder body, maple neck and thick slab rosewood fretboard, and this guitar has a bold, balanced acoustic presence, offering an ideal platform for the upgraded Van Zandt Vintage Plus pickups. Featuring black fiber bobbins, staggered Alnico V magnets, and cloth-covered leads, these pickups offer all the best qualities of a ‘60s Strat, with ample sparkle and snap, plus a bit more heft in the midrange. The bridge pickup has a sparkling cut, the neck pickup has a throaty bell-like chime, and the “in-between” positions on the five-way pickup selector switch deliver hollow quack. This Strat weighs 8lbs 2oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and spot-on intonation. The maple neck has a medium C-shaped profile carve with round shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .820” deep at the 1st fret and .950” at the 12th. The thick slab rosewood fretboard is a notably dark cut with a vintage-spec 7 1/4“ radius, and the stock slender fretwire is flawless benefitting from a level/crown in the guitar's lifetime. This guitar plays cleanly up the 25 1/2“ scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod, and the bone nut measures 1.650” (42mm) in width. The headstock has a small cigarette burn at the bass side of the nut, further mimicking SRV’s “Number One,” and the Kluson-style tuning machines turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch. The J-prefix serial is present just above the “Fender”-embossed neck plate, and the tiny "Made in Japan" text has been scratched off. The neck heel and pocket have matching “Order Made” stamps, and the neck heel is pencil dated to 1-28-90. All of the electronics function as intended, with the upgraded Van Zandt pickups wired to the stock harness with cloth-covered leads and full-size Japanese pots that date to November of ‘90. The vibrato is inverted, with the arm on top, just like on SRV’s guitar; the Texas guitar titan flipped his vibrato to imitate his heroes Otis Rush and Jimi Hendrix (who were, of course, both lefties). Plastics comprise the three-ply black pickguard and the evenly aged knobs and pickup covers. Cosmetic wear on the gloss three-tone Sunburst finish includes an area of wear through the finish at the arm contour which has been buffed smooth, a handful of minor dings on the body as a whole, and light buckle worming on the back. The neck profile retains its smooth ambered gloss.   A modern Fender molded hardshell case is included, along with all of the original Japanese hangtags.
