With a Reggie White led defense, the Showboats were consistently at the top of the league in attendance. This home field advantage even led to the Showboats hosting a 1985 playoff game in which they should have been the road team. The league believed it would look better to have a full stadium on tv. The fan support for the Showboats opened the door for future teams such as the Memphis Mad Dogs and the Houston Oilers' move to Tennessee.
