SENA Spider ST1 Motorcycle Motorbike Mesh Headset Intercom - Dual

from 34 reviews

Group Mesh 5.1 Mesh intercom system with HD speakers, audio multitasking and fast charging

Description

Meet the Spider ST1, a mesh-equipped headset with a glove-friendly jog-dial control. Operating exclusively on the groundbreaking Mesh intercom platform, which streamlines rider-to-rider communication. Featuring two different Sena Mesh Intercom™ modes: Group Mesh Intercom and Multi-Channel Open Mesh Intercom. When using Group Mesh, users create a private group that supports up to 24 riders over a range of up to 5 miles / 8 km (min 6 riders @ 1 mi / 1.6 km intervals). Users are invited into Group Mesh, for added control and privacy.

Premium HD Speakers
Superior audio performance as well as physical comfort can both be found in Sena's premium HD Speakers, which are included. The HD Speakers were designed with a low-profile and tapered bevel to reduce the possibility of ear-to-edge chafe, and fit into existing helmet speaker pockets. The HD speakers deliver crisp communication sound quality, with a marked increase in volume, bass boost, and clarity.

Smartphone Pairing & Audio Multitasking
Bluetooth 5.1 allows you to pair your smartphone to the ST1 in order to stream music, hear turn-by-turn GPS directions and take or make phone calls. The Spider ST1 is equipped with Sena's Audio Multitasking™ technology so you can have a conversation via Mesh Intercom™ while simultaneously operating your smartphone's Bluetooth features like music, GPS, or phone calls.

Sena App
The new Sena Motorcycles App gives users a way to visually configure your device settings. Download from the App Store or Google Play store in order to customize a variety of settings and features, including the ability to remotely manage channel settings for Open Mesh, or even setting a private group for Group Mesh.

Early days I've only tried it out twice but it is very clear speaking and hearing and music came through clear bluetoothed from phone. As usual brilliant service from SBS & very competitively priced,.
Mostly good most of the time

I bought the ST1 in April, set it up (very simple) with a couple of test rides and went on a 3-week tour of Europe in May. It mostly worked fine but I have some issues with it. Firstly, the satnav's nagging over-rides the intercom. I would much prefer it the other way around or, better still, just reduce the satnav volume when the intercom is active, just as it does with the music audio. I ended up turning off the satnav announcements because they became so intrusive in towns and cities. Secondly, it is impossible to use the controls reliably with even light summer gloves - just a small raised bump in the middle of the central button would help. Thirdly, and far more seriously, both headsets failed in the rain. The rain was persistent but never particularly heavy. It was too days before the headsets dried out sufficiently to function again. The failure mode of the first headset wasn't pleasant with loud and persistent screeching and distortion through the headphones of the set that briefly continued to function. Why would anybody make an externally mounted motorcycle headset that fails after so little rain? The ST1 was clearly not designed by a motorcyclist.
Good starter comms

Good bit of kit for someone who is just getting started, speakers are okay, but difficult to hear other people speaking at around 60mph+ although that may be due to the helmet, easy set up and a choice of mics. A bit annoying that it is unable to connect to Bluetooth headsets and only mesh users but it seems that mesh is going to be more common than Bluetooth. Overall a good bit of kit with only a few draw backs

Very happy with my purchase
Great Kit

Good sound quality and easy to install. Seems great so far, I've had it in some rain and it works fine (though I have heard that long term it doesn't fair very well in the wet). The app is a little annoying, could be laid out better. The dual set is excellent for me and the wife to talk when out riding.
Communication is key!
