THE PRISONER
# 2 Button with Penny-Farthing Bicycle

One1.25" pinback button with crisp B&W artwork of the insignia of The Village - an old-fashioned bicycle.

The Prisoner is a 17-episode British television series first broadcast in the United Kingdom from 29 September 1967 to 1 February 1968. Starring and co-created by Patrick McGoohan, it combined spy fiction with elements of science fiction, allegory, and psychological drama.

The series follows a British former secret agent who is abducted and held prisoner in a mysterious coastal village resort where his captors try to find out why he abruptly resigned from his job. In the village everyone has numbers, not names, and the leader is called Number Two. In the opening credits of the show, McGoohan's character is assigned the number 6, to which he declares, "I am not a number, I am a free man!"

Although sold as a thriller in the mould of the previous series starring McGoohan, Danger Man (1960) [retitled as "Secret Agent" in the US], the show's combination of 1960s countercultural themes and surreal setting had a far-reaching effect on science fiction/fantasy programming, and on popular culture in general.

The button has the red number 2 (for the leader of The Village - but who is Number One?).

Wear your Number 2 button and try to determine what Number 6 is up to!

This reproduction button is smaller than the ones shown in the actual TV program, making it easy to wear discreetly.
