Oaxacan Barro Negro Necklace

This Estate found antique features a Zapotec made, barro negro fetish necklace. It is a matte finish, which dates the beads prior to 1950. Made from clay mined on the slopes of the Sierra Madre, this item started out the color of wet mud. Impregnated with heat and smoke, they transform to a stunning black. Each bead and fish figure are hand crafted.
