Prefer the double spring tampers but it does the job pretty well

The Good:

-Good weight compared to the stock option

-Smooth movement

The OK:

-Single calibrated spring (I just prefer the doubles due to the ease of ground distribution but they both work)

Fits the Delonghi basket perfectly and has a consistent single spring operation. All the calibrated ones I’ve used so far are such an upgrade from the factory tamper it’s hard not to just be overwhelmed by that. This one has a good weight but there are heavier options if you prefer that. The spring is consistent and smooth moving, nice to standardize that last element when making espresso. It basically would have been perfect if they had included the ability to adjust the spring or swap springs out for different pressures. Personally, it is more about consistency to me than dialing in exact pressure but for some people this really might be a deal breaker. If it’s the right price and you want to get away from the factory option, I’d definitely consider this one.

I have a simple Breville Cafe Roma espresso machine that is missing the tamper, so I've been using a spoon for a while, and wanted to upgrade that to a proper tamper. I ordered this tamper to use with my machine, and made sure to order the correct diameter. What a difference it makes, and simplifies the whole process of making a nice espresso, without fiddling around with improper tools. The tamper certainly has good weight to it, which helps to compact the coffee grounds nice and evenly. It's made of excellent quality materials, and is quite nice looking in silver, in my humble opinion. The size was perfect, and fits the coffee holder exactly as I would have hoped. If I'm honest, I'm not sure that I feel much of a spring effect as it relates to the pressure applied to the coffee grounds, nevertheless it works beautifully. The other thing that I noticed is that compared to other tampers, it seems very reasonably priced. I'm no expert in this matter, but I would certainly recommend it for a well priced, and high value tamper.

Hi! Ever since my first espresso some 50 years ago, the endless pursuit for the ultimate espresso has lead me to this review, this one exact moment in time. Lol

Okay, so my buddy is trying to convince me that I needed a higher quality tamper than the one that came with my espresso maker. So I ordered the one he told me to get.

It is adjustable and fits my coffee grounds holder thingy. I think that’s what it’s called. He dialed it in. Can I actually taste the difference? No. But he said my taste buds are not as refined as his. But does it press the grounds tighter together? Why yes, yes it does. This espresso tamper does exactly what it was designed for. It tamps the coffee.

It is sharp looking and it does give the effect that I’m am more evolved and sophisticated while having this tamper sitting on my counter top.

It is spring loaded I think. It is adjustable for the depth. Hope this review helps…

It's funny to read the other reviews and see how people really get into tamping their ground coffee. I'm no connoisseur and I doubt I could taste the difference between poorly tamped and "expertly" tamped coffee. So I tried this tamper and....coffee still tasted the same. Oh, well. I did choose to get this tamper though because I had been using the basic plastic tamper that was provided with my machine. And this tamper fits the top perfectly and gave a very even smoosh on all the ground coffee. But best of all, I get to feel like a real coffee connoisseur for the 3 seconds I use this simple and elegant piece of absolutely essential equipment. Nice...
