This beautiful whale oil lamp dating back to circa 1840 is a true Americana treasure. The clear flint glass lamp features a blown font with wafer connection to a pressed glass hexagonal base.   This early whale oil lamp would take a double tube drop-in burner and is likely by New England Glass Co. or Boston & Sandwich Glass Co. The lamp is small in size, measuring approximately 5-1/2" tall.  The hexagonal base measures approximately 3-1/8" diagonally across.  It is in beautiful estate condition with only underside "in the making" roughness on the mold line, common for early molded flint glass, and only one exterior tiny shallow fleck on a base point.  There are NO cracks, NO sickness, NO grinding, and NO repairs.

The lamp is unsigned but is likely the work of New England Glass or Boston & Sandwich. It's a true antique that will make an excellent addition to any collection or display. A perfect find for collectors of early antiques and primitives.  Be sure to see our other listings for more antique glass, as well as other antiques in various categories!
