This is an as-is Apple Macintosh M1296 12" RGB CRT.

As far as I could tell from my fairly time consuming checking earlier this year in April when I NEEDED to see a display fast for a client repair, it doesn't work.

I shouldn't have been keeping all these super nice Apple things so long, I've had SO many IIfx, Classic, Classic II, LC 520, etc. that were sealed in the back of the warehouse for 15-20 years after being tested good, only to find out that I turn them on now and the Classics have huge stripes across the screen and the IIfxs are bricked because of the fake caps they used in them leaking out (they are fake Panasonic SMD electrolytics, Synhouse went to production with REAL Panasonic SMD electrolytics [and Panasonic tantalum, etc.] with the Synhouse MIDIJACK series, and not one has leaked out in 24 years, not to mention some of those were old stock so the caps might be 25-28 years old now). I was holding them as values went up, now a lot of them don't work.

I can't guarantee this is the problem with this Apple M1296, but I assume it's more of the same.

You may be able to fix it or not, so it's being sold as-is, no returns, no refunds.

This is heavy and expensive to ship so I'd hope someone can make a local pickup. This one isn't in the warehouse anymore, it's home.

I don't do any high voltage CRT work, so I'm not doing this repair and testing, and am offering it for sale.

This is one of the nicest original Apple monitors I've seen, it's beautiful, but it doesn't seem to work.

Test history on this one (it came in around 2002-2003):

Months ago, I had to test and do significant repairs on an Apple PowerMac 9500, so I needed a Mac display, and mouse, and keyboard, and brought it in from the warehouse (you can see in two of the photos in the photo gallery, there's lots, a full pallet rack of Macs, and then some). I climbed back there and picked out the right one, this M1296, a very durable 12" RGB CRT, which is known to me to be very, very reliable, if you can live with 640 x 480.

But it didn't work. I was using it with two computers, my own Mac 7200 just for reference (and it was similar to the other one, not a good screen image), and the client's PowerMac 9500 which it HAD to work with for testing. It didn't. The screen was bad, as you can see in the photos that show three different tests of that screen.

It is possible that the M1296 doesn't work with the Mac 9500, or this 9500 because of the ATI or whatever video card it is, it's a fancier video card in there than I'd normally use, and this was reinforced by me maybe never in my life seeing one of these M1296 CRTs NOT working. Though it hadn't been touched in 10+ years, and has been stocked here since 2002 or 2003.

After that I had to haul it over here to test with my own 7200. Confirmed, a bad screen image.

After that, I went back to the warehouse and brought back one of my M1212 CRTs, and it was working fine with the Mac 9500, so I did two days of repairs and got it done. Still using it out there, actually, as I have a few repairs going.

So as you can see, the screen is about 20% collapsed inward from the bottom of the screen upward, and the rest has lines across it. You can tell it is receiving the image. But it is being sold as-is.

The item is as described in the title and as shown in the photos. ALL of my photos are the actual items, always.

Shipping

This will be safely packed for shipment.

This is a heavy item, valuable and delicate. I will pack it into a cardboard carton with solid foam and polypropylene strap it, and I don't get paid for that. So a local pickup would be nice...
