This is a truly beautiful Japanese lacquerware tray made in the middle of Showa period (1911 ~ 1989) in Japan.
The technique used is called Togidashi-Makie, which is much more sophisticated technique than common Makie. It requires extra works thus more precious. After common Makie work, the surface is covered by transparent Urushi (Japanese lacquer) and polished with a special charcoal until the surface becomes completely flat like a mirror.
It is decorated
with fanciful flowers. Very beautiful. It can be used as a tray, meanwhile the
tray itself can be a mesmerizing ornament in your room.
The tray's upper edge is entirely covered by pure silver (photo # 10). It is stored in the original wooden (paulownia) box signed by the artist (photo #14).
It is in excellent condition as a vintage lacquerware tray with a virtually unnoticeable faint hair crack (photo #11 & 12).
