Super Rare Gold Piece Tied to the Titanic Disaster!

Antique circa 1890s Victorian 10K Gold Ostby & Barton Hair Clip tied to the Titanic ship disaster - a rare find for collectors and vintage jewelry lovers. Ostby & Barton, out of Providence, Rhode Island from about 1880 to the mid-century (1950's).

Ostby & Barton was formed by Engelhart Ostby - a master engraver and jeweler trained in Oslo - and a partner Nathan Barton.

One of the leading manufacturers of fine jewelry at the turn of the century.


Other than its very fine workmans was one of the passengers who died on the Titanic on April 15th, 1912. He was returning 1st Class from one of his buying trips in Europe with his daughter, Helene. Helene survived.

In Victorian times these clips were used by wealthy women to tie together pieces of lingerie. Today, this would be more of a statement hair clip (barrette).
