As long as the motherboard is salvageable, I will open it up and solder in new diodes and chips that burned, causing the issue in the first place, reassemble and send back to you. The cars covered include all models SL280, SL300, SL320, SL500, SL600, SL60, SL73 years 1990-2002. You send in your RST to me, I rebuild it, and send them back to you on my dime. My usual turn around is a few days. Should there be any issues with the rebuild, I'll contact you before proceeding further. I am an avid auto addict with a small shop in the Dallas, TX, specializing in classic German cars of BMW, Audi, Mercedes, and Porsche makes and models from the 2000s and older. I own an extensive personal collection of vehicles that I have maintained myself over the years, picking up knowledge from my dad and grandpa, who were both German car techs and nerds. The R129 is one of my favorite timeless German classics (I own 2), but as everything in this world, it's not perfect. The hydraulic tops in these cars, while way ahead of their time in terms of hydraulic and mechanical engineering, did not utilize superior materials in their construction, simply because modern materials didn't exist 20 years ago. On top of that, the electronics are old school digital technology that is either on or off, and not rated for the powerful current modern batteries and alternators can deliver . I saw cars with 240k miles and 13k miles have the same problem: a fried RST controller. Hence why I decided to take matters into my own hands and start to repair these controllers and upgrade the small chips and diodes inside to handle more current so this doesn't happen again.
