There has long been a divide between flyfishing and coarse fishing ? but there is no reason for it! Over 3 million people in Britain fish one way or the other ? and there is growing interest in combining these two major areas of the sport. The reasons are simple enough: virtually any fish will take a fly, you can see it ?as it happens? and the fight of a fish on a flyrod is nothing short of sensational.

His aim is to put the fun and soul back into fishing, as well as to instruct. Excerpt from Book

Coaxing Carp to FeedSpotting the fish and finding a likely area is often simple enough: convincing these cruising carp to take a fly is another matter. The key factor is the task of coaxing the fish to feed and this involves a skill more familiar to the coarse angler, that of loose feeding. A supply of bait and a catapult are essential in this exercise in gauging the response of the fish and encouraging the carp to let their mouths rule their heads. The classic rule of 'little and often' is usually the best way to proceed: use too little bait and the carp will remain picky or lose interest; put in too much and the fish will have too much choice. Your aim is to get the carp gobbling up free offerings confidently, expecting to find fresh bait on a regular basis. It is often worth resisting the urge to cast. Simply feed the fish for half an hour or more to get the desired effect and really let a few hungry mouths settle.Carp TakesThe takes themselves can be a sticking point. The antics of these big-mouthed creatures is a far cry from the sometimes rapid takes of other species and a fast strike is liable to pull the bait out of the carp's mouth or worse still, break the leader. The best advice here is to let the fish take properly. Watch the fly but only strike as you see the last foot or two of line pull tight. A measured lift of the rod is more than adequate to set the hook - use too much force and the weight of the carp will spell certain doom.
