Condition/Description:

UNCOMMON -- LIMITED EDITION COMMEMORATIVE COVER & INSERT --

NATIONAL MARITIME MUSEUM / GREENWICH EXHIBITION - 1960 -

This Exhibition traces the history of the carriage of seaborne mail through the centuries, and in particular the remarkable history of the Post Office Sailing Packets which sailed from Falmouth with the mails between 1688 and 1850. These Falmouth Packets are commemorated on a special official envelope issued during the time of the exhibition.

During the first week only of the exhibition an official Post Office Commemorative Cancellation was used on mail posted at the Greenwich exhibition, from 6th April to 13th April inclusive -- 100 envelopes were despatched by registered post to the places where the old overseas terminal Packet Stations used to be located (as illustrated in the design of the commemorative envelope). These Registered letters received the date stamps of arrival at the place of destination.

A total of only 90 Complete Mounted Collections exist -- this particular commemorative cover came from Album #67 of 90.

The Cover is in Good++ Condition -- some very minor imperfections and light mailing/handling wear. The envelope is open/unsealed. Toning and light soiling. Some bumps from mailing/handling which has resulted in minor corner/edge wear & rounding and very minor bends/creases.

The Insert is in Good++ Condition -- some very minor imperfections and light mailing/handling wear. Light toning and light soiling. Some bumps from mailing/handling which has resulted in minor corner/edge wear & rounding and very minor bends/creases. The insert has been folded in 1/2 to fit inside the envelope.
