Tibetan Hindu Deity Ganesha Temple Sculpture:

Title: Rare Tibetan Figure of the Hindu Deity "Lord Ganesha". Temple Relic. 20th Century.

Description: A superb example of Lord Ganesha, the elephant-headed deity from Hindu mythology, son of Shiva and Parvati, known as the 'Remover of Obstacles', and god of success and fortune. In Indian mythology, Ganesha is the God of the universal popularity among Hindu's and portrayed as an idol with the body of a man and the head of an elephant, having only one tusk. Ganesha's head is symbolic of the wisdom of the elephant and represents man's eternal striving towards integration with nature.

The deity is modeled in traditional Tibetan style, depicted seated bare foot on a rectangular base, holding his stomach with both hands. He is shown unclothed above the waist, exposing his large pot belly practically falling over his garment, wearing a Sampot, secured by a plain belt tied around his waist.

xxxx Ganesha's well-proportioned head is beautifully rendered with a slight tilt, almond shaped eyes, both tusks, whorled trunk carved in the round, and large ears resting on his shoulders.

xxxx The piece primarily cast from a special process of 'smelting' metal, in accordance with the Buddhist Scripture of mixing metals. This piece was cast in the lost wax method, produced from old sacred metals and religious artifact fragments consisting of Brass and Tin, with the surface showing various areas of old naturally aged patina.
