This is the original hand-drawn (penciled and inked) art for a classic Golden Age early 1930's Tailspin Tommy daily by the legendary Hal Forrest. I believe Tailspin Tommy was the first aviation adventure comic strip, starting in the late 1920's after Charles Lindbergh's famous 1927 flight across the Atlantic, which captivated the public's interest and led to a newfound fascination with flying, bringing about not only Tailspin Tommy but additional action/aviation strips that followed. This is a great example from 1932, and very large, measuring approximately 29" by 7 3/4". Please note it has some staining in the margins, which you should be able to see in the scan. Overall it still displays nicely, and with the original Bell Syndicate copyright sticker still attached, which isn't always the case. Please ignore the weird shadow, which is not the staining we mentioned. Because of the large size, we tried stitching the image together, so it wound up looking that way. This is a classic episode, titled "Looking For Evidence!". It features Tommy in all 4 panels, with wonderfully detailed backgrounds. If you wanted just one excellent example for your collection, this is about as good as you're likely to find, with the named character of the strip featured in every single panel! The piece has been signed by Hal Forrest in the last panel. Because of the large size, the piece will be shipped lightly rolled, unless the buyer wants it sent flat, which will be more expensive. This is an outstanding and rare piece of classic GA art. It would look fantastic framed and prominently displayed, and would be a key piece in any collection.
