Tudor Mint Myth and Magic Arthurian Collection / Large Collection

3309 - Le Morte D'Arthur (The Death of King Arthur)

This melancholy, hauntingly romantic piece, of the body of King Arthur lying in state and about to be carried by seven queens to Avalon, is in excellent, as-new condition (though there are the usual few scratches on the wooden base) and comes from a smoke-free home. In 1990, it was agreed in the Tudor Mint to extend the Myth and Magic Collection to include some characters from the legends of King Arthur and nine pieces were designed (called Fantasy and Legend), two years later five more were added. This one is unique, being also of the Large Collection - it was retired in 1997 and so has not been available to buy in the shops for some time now. The collection has been developed and includes some 26 medium and 1 large study, as well as an amazing Round Table. It does not come with an original box and was retired in 1997, so is no longer available to buy in the shops. Note the gorgeous shield crystal, not-so typical of this collection, and the impassioned pose of heart-broken Queen Guinevere. It will make a very lovely present for a collector - and will be very carefully wrapped indeed - see my 100% feedback from over 3,000 ebay transactions. Note: there is a limited edition mould one version of this piece, as the Tudor Mint only produced a certain number (800) of mould one studies, before they realised they'd made a mistake - and written Mark Locker's name on the base instead of true designer Anthony Slocombe's! In addition, mould 1 pieces have a gap between the king's head and the pillar (both of which are nearer to the edge of the base). Grab yourself a very rare version of a very beautiful and moving study! I have two listed - one with its original box. This mould 2 version is less rare but it does have the name of the correct designer on its base at least!
