"PARAPLUIE REVEL" by LEONETTO CAPPIELLO - ORIGINAL 1929 3-SHEET STONE LITHOGRAPH

The poster is one of Cappiello’s most ingenious and delightful designs to promote the umbrellas made in France by the Revel Company. As effective as it is simple, one sees “the umbrellas braving the storm like black ships’ sails. All the elements of fine poster design are here: bold shapes, strong contrasts (the background is a surprising sunny yellow), tight yet lively composition, unusual perspective—and no more detail than necessary” (Cappiello/Rennert, p. 236).

This is the larger three-sheet version of the poster, originally printed in three sections. The blank box in the lower right corner was intended for the local store to add their name and address to. The large scale artwork is quite dramatic when viewed in person.

Poster in VERY FINE CONDITION mounted on LINEN with some creases around the border edges and a few very minor chips along seams. There is a strip of wood attached to the top back of the canvas for hanging and eyelets in the lower corners for secure display. Ready for display as is or could be framed for a even more stunning presentation.

Will be shipped rolled in strong tube, also available for pickup in West Hollywood, CA.

Poster was purchased from an antiques dealer in the early 90's at The Antiquarium on Beverly Blvd. in Los Angeles and has been in storage for over twenty years.
