Up for sale, a 1985 Oberheim DX vintage drum machine in exceptional condition, freshly serviced and in perfect working order, complete with MIDI user manual. Essentially a lighter version of the iconic DMX drum machine, the DX boasts the same appearance, features, and programming method as its big brother. Used by everyone from Run-D.M.C. to Daft Punk, the Oberheim DX offers a slew of vital, customizable sounds.

The DX features six individual instruments and tracks: Bass, Snare, Hi-Hat, Toms, Cymbals, and Percussion, all of which can be altered dramatically through the dedicated tuning knobs on the back of the unit. There are three separate buttons for each instrument; for Bass and Snare, the user can select between Soft, Medium, and Loud. On the rest of the instruments, the three buttons offer variations of the sample. Percussion, for instance, has two Shaker sound options and a Clap. Each instrument has its own Volume slider, as well as individual output jacks on the back of the enclosure. There are also individual controls (and sliders) for the Master Volume and Metronome. Further controls include Tempo (variable from 25-250 bpm), Time Signature, and Quantization, with a suite of cassette-based recording controls designed for tandem usage with an external tape recorder. Sequencing is easy and rewarding, and the unit can store up to 5 hours, or 100 sequences, of material at a time. Additionally, both Real Time and Step-based recording are available.

What makes the DX remarkably flexible, however, is its keypad and onboard programmable capabilities, allowing for a much higher degree of musicality through the implementation of such techniques as ghost notes, swung rhythms, programmed mid-song changes, and transposition, to name a few. There?s a lot more going on than meets the eye; Still, the user interface is remarkably simple, and the inner workings become logical with minor familiarity. only a few minor scuffs.
