The names HRD and VINCENT are closely linked in motorcycle history. The reputation of Howard Raymond Davies ‘HRD Motors Ltd’ was built largely upon the success of its products in the TT races of the 1920s but, like many small manufacturers, it fell victim to the turbulent economic conditions of the late 1920s. The rights to use the HRD name were purchased by Philip Vincent, a young man with firm ideas on motorcycle design, who went on to produce the Vincent motorcycles that are held in such high regard to this day.

Philip Vincent also realized the value of racing his motorcycles at the Isle of Man TT, and achieved success in terms of race results and associated publicity. However, this book is about far more than just TT (and Manx Grand Prix) racing by Vincent and HRD motorcycles. Race statistics and technicalities are kept to the minimum, preference being given to relating the many firsthand accounts of those whose Vincent and HRD associations with ‘The Island’ come not only from racing but also from touring, sprinting, rallying and social activities.

The Isle of Man has long been a Mecca for motorcyclists and Vincent and HRD enthusiasts have been among the keenest of visitors. Their stories and photographs are here in this book and offer enjoyable reading to anyone interested in motorcycles.
