1966 Marvel Mini Comic Books SGT NICK FURY Set of 6 Colors Clear Display NOT CGC

Approximately 5/8" x 3/4" in size, these Marvel mini books were distributed in the mid-late 1960s via gumball-style toy vending machines, as party favors and various other means. There is a full story in each book. Six titles were produced (The Amazing Spider-man, Captain America, The Incredible Hulk, The Mighty Thor, Sgt. Nick Fury, and Millie the Model), each distributed variously across the country in the 6 common colors. Many were printed, but few have survived in mid / high grade due to fragile bindings and the disposable nature of comics and related items at the time.

Photos are of the actual item you are purchasing. Some photos are combined to meet eBay's limit of 12 images. Sorry for any reflections - the multiple plastic layers are very reflective in light, much like a CGC slab. While the display is clear similar to a CGC slab, there are slight imperfections, micro scratches and minor dust specks. The close up photos are highly enlarged in attempt to show any defects apparent on each.
All appear to be unread/unopened. The bindings on these mini books are known to be very fragile and well-loved, and these copies look as though they were kept locked away since the 1960s. For this custom-made holder, each book is contained in a stamp size mylar pouch, attached with archival photo-rated mounting squares onto to a Silver size 60pt ComicProLine clear backer board so both sides are easily viewable. The custom info header card was attached in the method. The entire set was then placed inside a Silver age Mylites2 mylar, then a Golden age toploader with a dust protector on the top edge. Lastly, the contained set was further sealed in an archival photo-rated clear bag (similar to mylar) for further protection.

Note: The folding display stand shown in bottom of the photos is not included. You can find these stands at a low cost from many places online by searching for "Gibson Holder" if interested.

More information:

"The Marvel mini books hold a few prominent positions in comic history as well. First off they were acknowledged by the Guinness Book of World Records as the smallest comic books ever published. Secondly, the covers came in six different colours — blue, red, orange, green, yellow and pale green — which makes them one of the earliest examples of variant cover marketing that are now common place in the industry. And lastly, keen-eyed reader’s will spot the appearance of a certain caped superhero at the end of the Spider-Man story, a full decade before the official Superman vs Spider-Man team-up of 1976."
