This is an exquisite 1942 Anglo Indian Royal Air Force interest wooden cigarette box.The body profusely decorated with Kashmiri carvings of leaves and scrolls. The lid has a large quatrefoil, filled with flower heads. In the centre, a sunken area delicately hollowed out, creating a high relief resembling a temple domed roof.
The hand-carved patterns are crisp, dense and highly detailed.The internal has a carved RAF emblem and motto PER ARDUA AD ASTRA. Below, SRINAGAR KASHMIR 1942.A removable partition and green velvet lining to the base.DIMENSION: 21cm x 12cm (8 1/4" X 4 3/4"). Height 5.5cm (2 1/4") approx.
