"A Journal of the Plague Year" by Daniel Defoe, with an introduction by J. R. Sutherland, is enhanced by eight full-page paintings and thirty-three part-page line drawings created by Domenico Gnoli. Richard Ellis planned the format, selecting Granjon and other typefaces from the period. The text is set in the 14-point size, featuring long descenders, ligatures, and swash characters. The page size is 7.5 x 10.5 inches, comprising 312 pages. The book was composed and printed at The Sign of the Stone Book in Bloomfield, Connecticut, on cream-toned wove paper specially made by the Curtis Paper Company of Newark, Delaware. The full natural burlap binding is adorned with crimson symbols representing the time of the Plague, and the title is stamped in gold leaf on a crimson leather shelf back label.
