Masterpieces from the Time Museum, Part Two, Sotheby's Sale of June 19, 2002

Mint, new old stock, from final cache of overstock inventory

B02 - Description: Masterpieces from the Time Museum, Part Two, Sotheby's Sale of June 19, 2002, the second of a four-part sale of highly important watches, clocks and related instruments from Seth Atwood's Rockford Museum sold between 1999 and 2004. Unlike an earlier sale many years before, which deaccessioned lesser or redundant items, these four sales constituted the core of the greatest private collection assembled at the time.

No more than a fraction of the collection was ever written about in book form, so the group of catalogs constitute the only reference work of the major portion of the Time Museum. The first three sections had individual catalogs, while the fourth came in three volumes, making six catalogs that cover the collection. Sotheby's organized top horological talent to research and present the items, atop the brilliant work done by museum curators.

Part two consists of extraordinary early watches of the 17th and 18th centuries, watches by Abraham Louis Breguet, repoussé, enamel and form watches, astronomical, technical and musical watches, early clocks from the mid-16th century and later, Japanese and Chinese clocks, astronomical clocks, American, Austrian, and Dutch clocks, English, French German and Swiss clocks, skeleton clocks, automata and musical clocks, and the spectacular Rasmus Sørnes Astronomical clock.

Included is a maker's index as well as bibliography. The work is 352 pages long, fully illustrated in color, measures 9 x 12 x 1 inches, (230 x 305 x 25mm), and weighs 3 pounds 9 ounces (1.62 kg)

This is among the last New Old Stock copies available of this important catalog, and would make a superb gift for the lover of watches and clocks (self-gifting allowed).

Condition: Mint, new old stock, untouched.
