This is a very unique riding shirt from the Hermes
Department Equitation which I purchased from a U.S. Hermes boutique in the
mid-1980’s. It is really quite a
sartorial piece of art. And I’ve never
seen another quite like it, other than another that I own.
Fabric: 100% Belgian Linen (This is one of the nicest
linen fabrics I’ve ever owned. Belgian
Linen is woven tighter than most of the linen fabrics on the market. It is also a heavier fabric than you would
expect, but is still very comfortable and breathable in hot weather.) The color is tan with a taupe overtone. Not dark enough to be considered khaki, but
darker than tan.
Sleeves: Short sleeves with cuffed finishing.
Collar: Removeable button down collar.
Pockets: Left side breast pocket.
Buttons: Real horn, self-posted, with applied Hermes
hunting horn medallions. The medallions
have two cast “pins” that allow them to be attached to two holes drilled through
the button surface. (Really elaborate
way to mount them.) The medallions
feature a hunting horn with the words “HERMES SELLIER A PARIS” cast into the
medallion. (If you are not aware,
“SELLIER” is “SADDLER” in English.)
Size: Large
Collar – 15 ¾ inches
Back (at shoulder) – 19 inches
Chest (at armpit) – 23 inches
Sleeve Length (outside) – 10 ½ inches
Back Length (from base of collar) – 25 1/2 inches. Straight bottom with small side vents.
Condition: Unworn.
It has been well stored, has been dry cleaned recently, and shows no signs of
wear. My name is printed on the bottom
inside edge.
