A compelling photograph taken just after the conclusion of the Civil War, depicting Sherman and the ranking Generals and corps commanders all in full military uniform who accompanied him during the Atlanta campaign, the March to the Sea, and the final campaigns in the Carolinas.  Four of the eight generals, including Sherman who was wounded at the Battle of Shiloh, are shown wearing Purple Heart medals.  Howard, whose empty tunic sleeve is neatly buttoned to the side of his uniform, lost an arm at Fair Oaks, Logan was wounded at Fort Donelson, and Mower had been wounded in the actions at Corinth.  An identical image in albumen print format sold for $4,183 at Heritage Auctions in December 2006.
