Discus Aquariums for First-Time Aquarium Owners
A very easy and straightforward way of keeping discus fish is to keep a group of 10 or more small discus fish in a standard aquarium, of around 180-240 litres. This aquarium size is ideal for rearing juvenile fish. The simplest method for successfully maintaining a discus aquarium is to refrain from keeping companion fish and live plants (risk of contaminations). Ideally, the fish should be moved to a larger aquarium after some time, when they have reached a small adult size
Discus fish love the company of members of their own species (Cichlid Behavioural Characteristics) and should be kept in fully grown adult pairs or in groups of at least 6-10 fish especially with juviles of 5cm or under
Largely carnivorous, Symphysodon spp. prefers freeze-dried bloodworms and tubifex, pellet food designed for discus, high-quality flake food, and meaty frozen foods.

On the rare occasion where a return of live fish has been agreed it is your responsibility to ensure that they are packaged safely and humanely so as not to cause the fish any unnecessary suffering during transit.
All fish should be placed in fish bags with rounded bottoms to ensure the fish cant get trapped in the corners of the bags with a ratio of 1/3 water to 2/3 air and will require medical grade oxygen to inflate the bags to ensure the fish do not suffocate in transit,
the bags should be of sufficient size to allow the fish enough room to swim upright and be able to turn round in the bags without having to bend
we recommend that all fish should be double bagged to prevent fish from puncturing the bags in transit
they then should be returned in the polystyrene box that we sent them to you in and depending on the species being returned they may require the use of a new heat pack (mainly for tropical species)
