Here on offer is a very rare hallmarked silver and Guilloché Whisky decanter label by Turner & Simpson, dating to 1960.

It is very unusual and rare to find a decanter label that has a top quality Guilloché finish, that is made by a top English silversmith.

This fine example is in mint undamaged condition on the front, with all the Guilloché in place. There are just some light scratch marks to the silver on the reverse.

The front of the label has the word ‘WHISKY’, highlighted in black enamel and set in a white translucent Guilloché rectangular background, which intern is set in an engine turned border.

Guilloché is a highly decorative and very skilful technique used in metalwork, which combines mechanical engraving and translucent enamels to create beautiful surface embellishment. Guilloché enamelling can only be achieved with specialised machinery known as ornamental lathes.

On the plain reverse, it is stamped with the maker’s mark, ‘T & S’ and a full set of English silver hallmarks and the words:

MADE IN ENGLAND

The hallmarks are: the lion passant denoting English silver, an anchor indicating it was assayed in Birmingham and the date letter L for 1960.

The makers mark ‘T & S’ refers to the quality English silversmith, Turner & Simpson of Birmingham.

The silver ‘loop’ chain that fits around the decanter or bottle neck, is still securely attached and sits perfectly on a decanter as shown in my photos. Please note the decanter is NOT included with the label but is available on my web site, listed as item number 51128.

The label measures 1.9” (4.8cm) by 1” (2.5cm) and weighs 17g.

Please see my pictures for the details of the condition, which complement this description.

Please note that this item is also being offered for sale on my own website BOAS Militaria at a lower price and therefore may be withdrawn at any time.
