Floyd Joseph, also known by his Indian name Tyee, is a Coast Salish artist and member of the Squamish Nation. He was born in 1953 at Homultcison (Capilano) on the North Shore of Burrard Inlet, Vancouver. He grew up amongst carvers, including his father Chief Larry Joseph and brother Larry. He has a welcoming pole at the University of Victoria and his work is internationally collected.  Joseph is now an elder and Hereditary Chief in the Squamish band, and was awarded the Canada Council Grant in Fine Arts.
