Wonderfully executed watercolor/gouache painted silhouette type portraiture of a young privileged girl.  She is posed in an elaborate dress of ruffles and lace, completed by an accented bonnet cap. Obviously from a prominent and wealthy family, not only by her elaborate dress, but also by the jewelry ( pearl or coral necklace ) - coral necklaces were common in this era as they were thought to ward off evil and kept the person in good health, and lastly by her holding a toy rattle ( a prized toy for only the wealthy )!

The portrait is in it's original ebonized frame with original cast brass hanging ring with a motif of " Oak Leaves & Acorn ', and has convex glass covering her portrait, the verso has a display cameo like cartouche which shows the sitter's name, age, and date.  The name has faded over time and is illegible to me, however, I can read... " Aged 2 years, 4 Months, and 11 days " and then a date below of " 1820 " or " 1826 ". The frame measures 5 7/8 inches x 4 7/8 inches.
