I’ve never seen a commercial lens cap for a Voigtlander Superb, so now I make them myself.

My own Superbs are in fine condition, but I really hesitated to even put them in my camera bag because I didn't have any protection for the lenses. Until now, that is. I made this cap for my own cameras and I know it's been useful for any other Superb owners out there.

I make each one by hand, pouring high-quality liquid polyurethane rubber into my own silicone rubber molds. They have a small recess to accommodate the shutter speed viewing prism. The lens sockets are lined with red velvet.

Because my small home workshop just isn’t capable of producing cosmetic perfection, there are often small air bubbles in the rubber. And the logo emblem on the front is sometimes slightly off-center. But none of these imperfections affect the function of the cap.

The stylized “V” on the front is copied from the vintage Voigtlander logo on the top of the camera. It’s finished in actual metal — powder that is impregnated into the rubber when cast. It will not rub off under normal conditions. The lens cap is one solid piece of rubber. I like to think that this is how the Voigtlander engineers would have designed it.

NOTE: Because the lens cap grips both lenses, and the lenses contra-rotate when the focus is adjusted, in addition to tilting for parallax correction, do NOT operate the focus lever with the lens cap installed. It will strain the mechanism. The cap is designed to fit properly only at or near infinity.

This sale is for the lens cap only. CAMERA NOT INCLUDED.

IMPORTANT:

Before ordering, please look carefully at the last picture in the series above. Those are my two Voigtlander Superb cameras. The one on the left was made in 1933; the one on the right was made in 1935. They are both focused at infinity. But you’ll notice a difference in the positions and sizes of the viewing lenses. I have no idea if this difference is common among Superbs or if one of mine is an anomaly. My lens caps fit the camera at left properly, but are a bit loose on the other one because of the stepped diameter of the viewing lens. I think you could enlarge the inside of the top cavity of the cap with sandpaper, but you do this at your own risk. I do not accept returns.

Note to buyers outside the USA: I ship free to eBay's international shipping service in Illinois. After leaving there, they will be subject to an additional international shipping charge. And in most cases the destination country will add an import (customs) charge. These vary from country to country. For instance, my products sent to Japan have no import charges, but when sent to Great Britain and France the import charges are almost as much as the item itself. I apologize in advance for this, but it is entirely beyond my control.
