Very collectable "Capricorn" bone china tea cup and saucer produced by Royal Standard, England.
This lovely duo is part of Royal Standard's ZODIAC series which they produced during the 1950's and 1960's. This cup and saucer has a wonderful metallic silver astrology theme incorporating the Capricorn 'goat' star sign nestled amongst stars, moons and planets. The rim of each piece features a lovely wave border, no doubt paying respect to these heavenly bodies and the influence they have on the tides and our moods. Beautiful black and silver banded higlights complete this incredible design perfectly!
Royal Standard is a trademark of Chapmans Longton, Ltd., which was founded as a wholly owned subsidiary of Thomas Wild and Sons, the makers of Royal Albert. The Royal Standard tradmark was used from 1949 till 1966. The company closed in 1966 when Allied English Potteries acquired the Wild Companies and reorganized production.
The teacup measures 8.6cm in diameter (not including handle) and stands 7cm in height. The saucer meausures 15.5cm in diameter.
Presented in very good vintage condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. Some age related discolouration, more so to underside of saucer and to the rim and handle area of the teacup. Some light age related crazing. The silver 'ZODIAC' pattern remains in lovely condition with minimal wear.
A wonderful and vintage teacup and saucer which will make a wonderful addition to any Zodiac or Royal Standard collection. Excellent for Capricorns that love Astrology and all things 'New Age'!
