In 1887 William H. Manchester founded W.H. Manchester & Co. in Providence, RI. It adopted the slogan, "If it's Manchester, It's sterling". The company mark was a cross surrounded by a crown, and the letter M. In 1904, the company was renamed Manchester Mfg. Co., and in 1915, the name changed again to Manchester Silver Co. All these pieces have the maker’s mark and are hallmarked sterling on the reverse.
