With its long claws delicately holding on in a treetop, the porcupine will methodically gnaw its way around the limb, eating the bark and tender shoots. Long guard hairs frame its face, but all of its protective quills are on its rump and tail. Porcupines are active all year, feeding mostly at night in conifer forests.
