Claude-Prosper Jolyot de Crébillon is called “Crébillon fils” to distinguish him from his father Prosper Jolyot de Crébillon (“Crébillon père”), famous playwright, member of the French Academy. The two men were very different: while the father wrote dark tragedies, the son specialized in licentious tales and novels1.
