This is a set of 4 of Richard F. Burton's Alf Laylah Wa Laylah: Supplemental Nights to the Book of the Thousand Nights and a Night, containing volumes 3, 4, 5, and 7. The original One Thousand and One Nights is a collection of Middle Eastern and South Asian stories and folk tales compiled in Arabic during the Islamic Golden Age; the follow-on 7 volumes collected his anthropological, research, and personal notes. These were published for The Burton Society in 1886-88 for members only, in order to avoid the strict Victorian laws on obscene material.

These volumes are in their original cloth bindings, with age-appropriate wear. Each has an inscription in the upper right corner of the front endsheet. The title pages are accented with red ink, and each facing page is illustrated. The text blocks are in very good shape.
