The RWD-8 was a Polish training aircraft of a mixed design, a high-wing (so-called umbrella) system, with a classic fixed landing gear. The prototype flew in 1933. Serial production continued from 1934-1939, ending with the production of about 550 aircraft of this type. The vehicle did not have permanent weapons.
The Polish Army very quickly became interested in the project, which in 1934 placed an order for these aircraft, which – in the army version – were produced at the PWS plant in Biala Podlaska. RWD-8 aircraft in a civilian version served in numerous flying clubs throughout the country. During the September campaign, RWD-8s also served as communications vehicles. After September 1939, RWD-8 aircraft were supplied to Romania, Finland and Hungary.
