SAVANNAH "SLAVE TILE" GARDEN BORDER

ARCHITECTURAL TILE

Early Red Clay Tile found prevalently in the Savannah area, which is how it got its name as Savannah "Slave Tile".

These tiles were made as border tiles for the French inspired gardens.

During the Civil War when times became more difficult for many areas, Savannah remained more vibrant. These tiles were more affordable to that area.

They were said to have been used as grave markers during the hardest times when marble headstones could not be purchased.

This tile has a number # sign in each of the arched top.

A great piece of American history.

It measures 8" X 8".
