A Girl with a Heart-Shaped Pendant
Measurements:
10 x 13 inches without frame.

Description:
Oil on canvas. Signed M. Gad and dated 1920. Fine portrait of a girl dressed in white silk and with a gold heart shape pendant necklace. Framed in its authentic golden salon frame. A fine oil by Danish impressionist painter, Mogens Gad (1887-1931). A certificate of authenticity will be included with this work.
Condition:
Ready to hang. In good condition with no holes, tears or missing paint. The oil could use a light cleaning, due to the age. The original frame has minor scratches due to the age.
Mogens Gad (1887-1931)
Born in Copenhagen in 1887. Sadly he died of sickness at the age of 44 in 1931. Pupil of Oeigaard in 1903. From1905-11, he attended the Royal art academy in Copenhagen, where his teachers was Otto Haslund, Frants Henningsen, Viggo Johansen and Julius Paulsen. Mogens Gad was a pupil and best friend of the artist Julius Paulsen whom he had met when he attended Julius Paulsen´s fine school of art in 1913. They both travelled to France and Italy where they lived and painted together in the period between 1913- 21. During this time they painted in Paris, Brittany, Venice and Rome. Gad was a sensitive artist and found his peace in arts. The impressionist influence from Julius Paulsen was evident in the works of Mogens Gad. Like Paulsen, Gad belonged to the circle of the early 20th century plein air artists. He stayed for weeks at the country sides painting and finished most of his work at the outdoors in order to capture the special lights and details. Gad has been exhibited many times in Denmark and Sweden. Exhibitions: Helsingfors Konsthall in Sweden: 1928.Kunstnerforeningen: 1921 and 1942. Charlottenborg: 1917- 32.Kiertzners Artgallery: 1923.
