The U.S. Postal Service issued this sheet of twenty 37¢ self-adhesive stamps on July 27, 2003 in Washington, DC, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the end of the Korean War. The photograph on the stamp was taken by John W. Alli of Catonsville, MD. It shows the memorial just before dawn and shrouded in heavy snow that fell during a storm in January 1996.

These stamps honor the Korean War Veterans Memorial in Washington, DC, which recognizes the sacrifices of those who served during the Korean conflict. The year 2003 marks the 50th anniversary of the armistice that ended the hostilities. The memorial features nineteen stainless-steel statues (designed by the Vermont sculptor, Frank Gaylord) of servicemen from the army, marines, navy, and air force. Shown marching in a wedge formation as if on patrol, these statues represent an ethnic cross section of the United States.
