an authentic antique, late Medeival period, 15th or 16th century,
black smith made, forged & wrought iron, hinged
Door Knocker
with it's original striking nail, and
to our opinion in the form of a cat,
it's mouth is the hammer,
with the eyes and nostrils indicated by holes pressed in to the malleable iron when it was hot,
the mouth it is slightly open, showing the tongue between the lips,
on the body chiseled lines to indicate fur / hair,
the long tail curled up over it's back,
the striking nail has decoration to the sides of the cube and 5 pips on the top
when not a cat, it perhaps is a zoomorphic beast, perhaps a leopard
or a Notalion - not a lion / not quit a lion / not really a lion / an un-leonine lion -
overall in nice and strong condition, with authentic, rustic patine,
some signs of age and handling, some scratches,
a part that would go into the wood / door seems the be sawed off
the front of the nail (the surface where the knocker hits) is smooth,
