Q. Why should i change my E-series drive units?
A. As most people know already the glue used in the 70’s has done its job for 40 plus years and has broken down causing chafing on the voice coil (see photo) this is loosing you quality, db and potentially damaging your supply amplifier.
These are modern day computer made and tuned and will last many more decades which means just by changing these your cabs have a new lease of life!!!

#sound is like food or colours and is a personal thing ti your ear and will differ from person to person! That being said the end results are excellent!!

10” BASS UNITS:
If you are replacing these it will most likely be due to glue failure issues in the originals which was a very common issue due to a reaction with oxidisation from the cast aluminium speaker baskets, the glue becomes brittle also and can work Its way into the VC rendering the unit to fail
In its quality.. the originals started to fail after around 1998 but Thanks to modern computer design and assembly we rarely have these issues.
These speakers have after much research been chosen as the ideal replacements for the E-Series ones or an excellent choice if you are building a kit, Please do not worry about the reverse appearance of the contact adhesive used as this is just superficial in the fact it’s merely to centralise the ring to the main unit and once screwed down it will become solid and will not be seen once fitted.
If you are replacing E-50,70 or 90 BASS units then simply follow the steps below, it only takes a few minutes!
1. Rest your cabs on their backs so the speakers face the ceiling.
2. Unscrew the 8 black self tapping phillips screws that hold the originals in
3. Remove the old units but carefully as you will need to pull off the 2 spade connectors (usually red and black)
4. Now take the new replacement unit and simply re connect the wires (RED TO + and BLACK TO -
5. Put the 8 screws back in but don’t tighten right up until all are in then evenly tighten them evenly to their maximum which will then allow the gap between ring and cab to close up (don’t worry if after you have tightened there is a small gap this is still normal) once all the screws are done up you are ready to go
You should notice an improvement on the bass response on all models and improved definition at high volume levels, these will also handle more power too.
NOTE: these are not as high db as the originals but to the naked ear is negligible and with modern high power amps not really an issue..
MIDRANGE UNITS:
The procedure to change these is the same as above except the old units will need the 2 feed wires to be cut to remove as these are factory soldered in place for best results. Once you have removed the old mids you will find there doesn’t seem to be much cable however there is actually excess cable inside the speaker cab so just carefully pull on the cables and you will find the excess pulls through into the tubes allowing working room to solder. Again just fit the
New mids and tighten the screws once the wires are re attached. Midrange definition should be superb now and crystal clear clarity heard.
Bullet tweeters:
If replacing the originals in order for these to fit in the cabs you will need to cut the square offset tweeter hole out by another 4mm to all four edges BUT be careful not to over cut as any over cutting may be seen when it is fitted as the ring may not cover this! The hole enlarging is to allow the huge magnet to pass through. These tweeters are not only high quality but are also 101db so very efficient and considerably brighter, ideal if you like clear tops or like me your ears are fading due to age! Its the HF that we loose in this case first.
