This is a complete 3-volume collection of The Prose Romances of Francois-Marie Arouet de Voltaire, as part of The Bibliophilist's Library, Second Series. "Now first completely done into English by William Walton." Printed only for subscribers by George Barrie Philadelphia; research indicates in 1897-98. "Of this edition, printed on Japanese vellum paper, only one thousand copies are printed for sale, No. 899 printed for Vennette F. Pelletreau, New York." Illustrated with etched plates by F-A Laguillermie and C-R Thevenin.
These are clothbound in black with what appears to be vellum spine labels. Title pages are printed in black and red inks. It is presumed that red ink was also used on the spine labels as there are blank areas where parts of the title would appear. The covers have some discolorations, but the text blocks are clean. The books measure 5-1/2"x9".
