Producing high quality 6x6 cm square negatives in a compact very easy to operate camera, with the best lens available. There was no photographer who would not master one, no apprentice who would not wish to own one. For the professional, the Rolleiflex was like a gift from heaven, it meant a radical change in his/her creative work.

The 3.5E is the only Rollei with a non-removeable hood and Planar or Xenotar lens. All previous models also have non-removeable hoods, but they have Tessar or Xenar lenses. All subsequent models have removeable hoods. Additionally all subsequent models are identified with the model designation engraved in front of the serial number. The 3.5E has no such identification. The 3.5 type 1 came with a factory installed meter while the type 2 did not.
