The 5 ton trailer was used by the military as the standard medium sized trailer during World War II. Called the E5 model, it had a payload capacity of 5 tons and an empty weight of almost 2.5 tons. The trailer was used by the troops to transport materials on all fronts and performed so well that it was used by haulers and in agriculture long after World War II.
