Forget-Me-Not - Myosotis Sylvatica

Order: Lamiales    Family: Boraginaceae   Genus: Myosotis

Myosotis sylvatica (wood forget-me-not or just forget-me-not) is a species of flowering plant in the family Boraginaceae, native to Europe.

It is a short-lived herbaceous perennial or biennial growing to 12–30 cm (5–12 in) tall by 15 cm (6 in) wide, with hairy leaves and a profusion of disc-shaped, intensely blue (occasionally white) flowers in Spring.

It is a very popular plant for spring bedding, often seen in the company of wallflowers and tulips. It is a neat little plant, forming mats of bright blue, although as the flowering season progresses it can get leggy. Plants sometimes show pink as well as blue flowers, and varieties have been bred to give plants with all pink flowers. Separate white flowered forms are also sometimes seen.

Height: 6 inch (15 cm) - under 1 ft.

Flower Color: Soft blue with yellow centers, white, pink

Plant Type: Perennial. Returns each spring from same roots, forming expanding clump. Blooms second spring from seed.

Flower Type: Clusters of tiny simple flowers

Flowering Time: Spring, Summer

Upright, to 50 cm; softly hairy, with hairs at more-or-less right-angles to the main stem.

Flowers grey-blue, to 8mm across, flat in profile; sepal tube with hooked hairs; April–July.

Mature fruit dark brown, shiny.

Mature calyx on spreading stalks longer than sepal tube; calyx teeth spreading to expose the ripe fruit.

Basal leaves stalked, in a rosette; upper leaves not stalked.

Generally found in woods, scree and rock ledges.

Baby's Breath - Gypsophila paniculate

Order: Caryophyllales  Family: Caryophyllaceae  Genus: Gypsophila

Gypsophila paniculata (baby's breath) is a species of flowering plant in the Caryophyllaceae family, native to central and eastern Europe. It is an herbaceous perennial growing to 1.2 m (4 ft) tall and wide, with mounds of branching stems covered in clouds of tiny white flowers in summer (hence the common name "baby's breath").[1] Its natural habitat is on the Steppes in dry, sandy and stony places, often on calcareous soils (gypsophila = "chalk-loving").

It is a popular ornamental garden subject, and thrives in well-drained alkaline to neutral soils in full sun.

Blooms: June - August
Habit: herb
Duration: perennial
Origin: Introduced from Asia

General: Glabrous, glaucous perennial, the stems freely-branched, 4-8 dm. tall.
Leaves: Leaves opposite, lanceolate to linear, 2-5 cm. long and under 1 cm. broad, 1-nerved.
Flowers: Flowers small, numerous, in large, diffusely branched, leafy-bracteate inflorescences; pedicels slender, 2-4 times as long as the flowers; calyx top-shaped, shallowly 5-lobed, 2 mm. long; petals 5, white, oblanceolate, slightly longer than the calyx, stamens 10; styles 2.
Fruits: Capsule ovoid, equaling the calyx, 1-celled and 4-valved.

Common Daisy - Bellis perennis
Order: Asterales Family: Asteraceae Genus: Bellis
Bellis perennis is a common European species of daisy, of the family Asteraceae, often considered the archetypal species of
that name.
Many related plants also share the name "daisy", so to distinguish this species from other daisies it is sometimes qualified as
common daisy, lawn daisy or English daisy. Historically, it has also been commonly known as bruisewort and occasionally
woundwort (although the common name woundwort is now more closely associated with Stachys). Bellis perennis is native to
western, central and northern Europe, including remote islands such as the Faroe Islands but widely naturalised in most
temperate regions including the Americas and Australasia.
It is a perennial herbaceous plant with short creeping rhizomes and rosettes of small rounded or spoon-shaped leaves that are
from 3/4 to 2 inches (approx. 2–5 cm) long and grow flat to the ground. The species habitually colonises lawns, and is difficult
to eradicate by mowing – hence the term 'lawn daisy'. Wherever it appears it is sometimes considered an invasive weed. It
exhibits the phenomenon of heliotropism where the flowers follow the position of the sun in the sky.
The flowerheads are composite, in the form of a pseudanthium, consisting of many sessile flowers about 3/4 to 1-1/4 in
(approx. 2–3 cm) in diameter, with white ray florets (often tipped red) and yellow disc florets. Each inflorescence is borne on
single leafless stems 3/4 – 4 in (approx. 2–10 cm), rarely 6 in (approx. 15 cm) tall. The capitulum, or disc of florets, is
surrounded by two rows of green bracts known as "phyllaries". The achenes are without pappus.
This daisy may be used as a potherb. Young leaves can be eaten raw in salads or cooked, noting that the leaves become
increasingly astringent with age. Flower buds and petals can be eaten raw in sandwiches, soups and salads. It is also used as a
tea and as a vitamin supplement.

Chinese Creepingfern - Sphenomeris chusana

Kingdom Plantae – Plants Subkingdom Tracheobionta – Vascular plants Division Pteridophyta – Ferns

Class Filicopsida   Order Polypodiales    Family Dennstaedtiaceae – Bracken Fern family    Genus Odontosoria Fée – creepingfern       Species Sphenomeris chusana(Odontosoria chinensis) (L.) J. Sm. – Chinese creepingfern

A pretty, lacy medium sized fern with short-creeping to sub-erect rhizomes. Grows well under medium to high light in well-drained, moist garden soil or potting mix. Native from Madagascar to Polynesia and Japan.

Rare in cultivation.

The Chinese creepingfern is generally described as a Perennial Forb or herb.

Description
The hairless fronds of the fern are glossy light green on burnt-orange stalks and are finely divided (divided 3 times). They can grow from 2 to 5 feet tall and clumps can reach several feet in diameter. Spores are formed at the tips of the smallest segments.

Habitat and Geographic Range
Odontosoria chinensis  is indigenous to Hawai'i, other parts of Polynesia, and east Asia. It is commonly found in forest openings and other disturbed areas such as along trails or roads, or on landslides when there is adequate moisture. This fern grows from sea level to an elevation of at least 4,000 feet.

Propagation by Cuttings
Sphenomeris chinensis is most easily propagated from rhizome cuttings. Cuttings should have a minimum of 3 or 4 mature fronds and some new growth.

Propagation by Division
Sphenomeris chinensis clumps can be easily dug up and divided. Divisions should not be smaller than 4 to 6 inches in diameter.
