The measurement site of the sphygmomanometer is the radial artery, while the watch measures the two main branches of the arteriole. Normally, aortic blood pressure measurement and arteriole blood pressure measurements may vary by three to forty. If you use a watch and a sphygmomanometer to measure simultaneously, the blood flows in the artery towards the centrifuge direction. The sphygmomanometer, measuring on the straps with the lower part of your elbow under pressure, temporarily impedes smooth blood flow to the artery branches below. This increased vascular tension can result in biased values for both upper and lower blood pressure measurements.
