Up for sale, a 2021 Collings OM42A Koa in like-new condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case and hangtags. One of the premier acoustic builders of the modern era, Collings instruments exude quality, passion, and precise craftsmanship in every aspect of their construction. This particular masterfully crafted guitar is Collings’ take on Martin’s OM-42 platform, which was initially only available in 1930 prior to a modern reintroduction, featuring a 15” lower bout width and extensive genuine abalone purfling/inlay.

All woods are acquired, acclimated, and hand-selected by the master luthiers at Collings, and each component is picked with the "whole tonality of the end instrument in mind." This OM is no different: the back and rims are crafted from highly figured flame koa, the top is X-braced Adirondack spruce, and the neck is (also deeply figured) Honduran mahogany capped with a bound ebony fretboard. This guitar is very sweet sounding and crisp, with the layered midrange complexity and detailed high treble of koa as a tonewood. The wound strings have a full-bodied response with a high volume ceiling and a bit of natural compression when picked with authority. And of course the Orchestra Model body size and scale length lends itself to fingerpicked passages, very sensitive to playing dynamics. Weighing 4lbs 3oz, this Collings has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 12-53 bronze strings and easy-playing action.

The rosette and top are framed by multi-ply abalone binding and grained ivoroid, and the flame figuring in the bookmatched koa back and sides is extremely tight and dynamic, stretching evenly across the entirety of the back/rims. This is an exceedingly clean example, with barely a scratch on the body. The smooth gloss on the neck profile is similarly immaculate and highlights flame figuring in the Honduran mahogany, particularly prominent along the bass-side shoulder.

The Collings/TKL hardshell case with green plush interior is included, along with the hangtags and documentation.
