A Day Along the Triple Track Main

The third volume on our popular Sunrise/Sunset series takes you to the busy triple-track mainline at Cincinnati, Ohio, where 12 routes radiating in and out of town are squeezed through a funnel called Winton Place. Here CSX, Norfolk Southern, Indiana & Ohio, and Amtrak trains compete for signals and switches, three-way meets are a regular occurrence, and directional running puts trains on competitors' rails to ease the congestion!

Pentrex set up in the pre-dawn hours of June 28, 2000 to capture 15 hours worth of action from sunrise to sunset. Among the many interesting moves that came our way were a CSX special passenger train, steel and coal trains, the Juice Train, Triple Crown trains, and a working Loram Rail Grinder. We recorded 58 trains, many with a fascinating array of motive power. CSX presented an incredible variety of diesels, with numerous units on lease, and post-merger Conrail power was in use on both CSX and NS.

Train symbols and numbers are given for all movements showing where freights originated and where they're headed. Plus, a schematic drawing and explanation of the signal system shows just how this busy junction is operated. If variety is what you want in your railroad entertainment, this show will exceed your expectations!
