World Class Antique Chest

My client Ebay member "condor361".... had this to say after buying a 1920's cedar chest I restored...."Beyond perfect service" & "The chest is really, really great, a job well done"

PROVENANCE: I acquired this from an antique dealer in “antique city” Nebraska. Inside the chest was an envelope addressed to Matthew Kallhoff, signed by his mother Deb Kallhoff.

Dated August 9, 1993. Deb had lived on a farm in Comstock, Nebraska. Her neighbors were Clayton & Virgie Shepperd. She became close friends of the Shepperds.

Upon the passing of Virgie in 1992, Deb bought this chest from the Shepperds as a memory of Virgie, about 1 year after she bought it Deb gave it to her son Matthew. Almost 30 years later I found it in an antique store & knew it would look amazing restored!

I restored this child’s immigrant trunk/chest to a world class level

Spectacular natural grain patterns & colors...amazing & beautiful!!

CIVIL WAR ERA CHEST

Circa 1865-1885

This will look great anywhere you decide to place it, I think at the foot of a bed, near a fireplace, in an entryway or in a living room are some great choices.

It’s small footprint gives you many options!!

I guarantee it will get rave reviews from all who lay eyes upon it, no doubt a conversation piece

Original steam bent wood lift handles on each end

The iron mortised lock is original & works beautifully with a period antique key I fit to the lock!!

The solid brass keyhole I custom made

The lid opens & closes perfectly, hinges are original but they have been repositioned. Lid has 2 brass over steel chains so it can remain open hands free!!

The character marks and graining of the wood is spectacular! The rustic knots, splits. nicks, dings and imperfections & patina give it tremendous beauty & historical charm

This chest was covered in a thick muddy brown paint including all the beautiful hardware(paint was not original)

I removed all the ugly brown paint knowing this chest was going to look fantastic when it was properly restored!!

hand restored the finish including the backside of the chest using many coats of hand rubbed varnish to preserve, protect and showcase the incredible beauty of the wood!

The tin straps & tin stars are great original detais

There is age related shrinkage gaps in the floor of the chest, I made no attempt to restore them, they are totally stable

I restored the entire chest to museum quality respecting its history, character, structure, integrity and primitive beauty consistent with any fine antique

The papering inside the chest is original, of course it is rather fragile, I left it in place, I think it adds much historic charm.

The small leather strap(used to lift the lid)& Buffalo nickel concho/medallions I installed to replace the missing parts

The removable tray/drawer is original

Acquire this chest & join my worldwide clients who love historic antiques, fine craftsmanship & artistic restoration by a master craftsman, you will love this wonderful treasure found in this child’s immigrant trunk!!

Simply a wonderful historic American chest

All the best, Bryan
