Frances Anne Kemble, better known as "Fanny" Kemble was a 19th-century British actress who, after traveling in the United States, published a number of written works describing her travels. Her best work, and notably most popular, is her ‘Journal of a Residence on a Georgian Plantation.’ In this work, which was published during the American Civil War, Kemble notes her experiences and observations of slavery on a southern plantation in the late 1830s.
